Donald Trump’s team has had the best part of four years to prepare for his second presidency and has hit the ground running with a welter of executive orders, hirings and firings, all concentrating on Making America Great Again.

On the global stage, Trump’s primary focus is on cooperating with some of the world’s leading autocracies and oligarchies in the hopes that they can help the US get richer at the expense of just about everyone else.

While American presidents have never refrained from engaging with dubious regimes – it is, after all, well known in Western diplomatic circles that it is often much easier to deal with autocracies than messy democracies – Trump’s approach is still a far cry from that of Joe Biden or Barack Obama.
