And the entire room thought: "awkwaaaaard".

South Korea's foreign Minister Ki-Moon was sworn in as UN Chief yesterday, replacing the reign of Kofi Anan (transcript of the ceremony can be found here), where it is clear that his main goal was indeed to present himself as a "build bridger: tough but fair. It makes little doubt that he will face the great challenge of rebuilding the organisation's tarnished image - his main task is, in his own words, to "restore trust".

All in all a stern, respectful tone de circonstance was adopted trhoughout the ceremony. So this is a bit -scratch that, totally- bewildered that we heard about Ki-Moon serenading journalists at the press conference that followed, singinga Christmas song that went like this:

"I'm making a list, I'm checking it twice, I'm going to find out who's naughty or nice. Ban Ki Moon is coming to town."

Say what? Maybe UN Chief Ki-Moon got carried away a little bit; or perhaps he was just looking to publicise his appointement in the most ridiculous fashion. I just hope he'll adopt a more adequate tome when dealing with the serious matters which await him. But then again, lots of people think I am humourless. Thoughts?
