openDemocracyUK is looking for two freelance journalists to write monthly columns, highlighting examples which illuminate problems at the nexus of the environment, corporate power, democracy and the British state after Brexit. Using journalistic investigation and story-telling, and working with campaigners, they will research and write about specific examples of the relationships between big polluters, vested interests, the British state and other powerful institutions, helping expose the networks of organisations and people preventing action on climate change, pollution and biodiversity.
The columns will form the backbone of a two-year series on openDemocracyUK about why the British state has consistently failed to deliver environmental justice. Columnists will be expected to cover a range of environmental issues, looking at the institutional and structural barriers to change, including corporate lobbying, revolving doors, civil service culture, and inequalities of power in society such as gender, race and class.
