Can democratic reform unite the left?

Published:

Guy Aitchison (London, OK): Sunny Hundal has a piece on Cif today calling for the left to unite around the kind of radical democratic agenda he and others discussed last week at the round-table organised by OK, Power and the Democratic Audit. He says:

The reform agenda could be Labour's silver bullet for the next election. The party needs a radical agenda: it needs to show it can guarantee civil liberties while fighting terrorism, can boost public participation in the political process; can earn the public's trust again; and can give up some of its power. Will it follow through? That answer may partly depend on us.

Is he right? Is there anything democrats can hope to salvage from the political wreckage of Brown's premiership? Or is Sunny just too much of an optimist? Read the full piece here.
