The Daily Mail group kept quiet about the substantial sums of money secretly paid to a private detective – even after the police began probing his criminal conduct.

Steve Whittamore raked in £150,000 from the controversial publisher even after he had been raided.

Much of the money was given to him after he had been convicted for unlawful data theft.
