National Remembrance Holiday

Published:

Jon Bright (London, OK): Hat-tip to Felix Cohen for pointing out this e-petition: some enterprising soul has combined Blears' love for petitions with Brown's love for Britishness into an e-petition on a British 'National Remembrance Day', the day after Remembrance Sunday, for the following reasons (decide for yourself which are the most important):

Such a holiday will serve to emphasise our commemoration of The Fallen who gave their lives to save Britain and also the on-going importance of the survival of our Nation. The National Remembrance Holiday will further serve to break that period between late summer and Christmas when there is currently no public holiday.

150,000 + signatures at the time of writing, and still two months until the petition closes - this could end up being one of the larger e-petitions. Will Brown endorse the idea of a 'British National Day'? And would he allow 'the people' to choose it for themselves, through a petition? I'm looking forward to the response - and (maybe) to putting my feet up thinking about the fallen for more time than usual this November.
