There has been much ado about Obama’s responsibility for failures in Iraq. How could a decade-long campaign to overthrow a tyrant and impose democracy have possibly gone wrong?
The irony is that in populist and capricious US domestic politics those of the Bush administration have always been referred to as “neo-conservatives”. Of course, democracy is liberalism. To impose democracy is “neo-liberalism” by definition; a moniker to which the former administration and their followers would bristle for its insinuation at Carter-esque weakness and gentility.
