In a context of ever-expanding globalisation, and amidst a global wave of populism, there are growing concerns regarding the health of our democratic systems – not just in Latin America, but worldwide. They are being blamed for such problems as fractured and violent societies, environmental degradation and growing inequality. What’s more, the politically disenfranchised are increasingly turning their backs on hard-fought democratic values, and instead looking towards dangerously regressive alternatives to the unfavourable status quo.

This series responds to these concerns, and shares the thoughts and experiences of a network of young activists, government leaders, researchers and civil society actors. It tackles important social issues such as gender equality and sexual freedom, the lack of care of biodiversity, open and collaborative culture, hyper-urbanisation, citizen participation and the overall impact of new technologies. And in doing so, this network not only seeks to provide a new democratic vision for Latin America, but also start to transform this into reality.
