Anthony Barnett (London, OK): Am I the only person who thinks that this is another job for the powder squad? There was a time when the British were famous for their stiff upper lip. However this has proved uncomfortable and inefficient of late, as the bubble society is always in need of a new line for its frenzied activity. Now we have the most hyper-active leader of the moment arriving in town with his "latest bird" while declaring that the "sixties are liquidated". Hello, hello!

Mon ami Patrice de Beer has a good article on what is going in back home in France and cautions us against thinking his President will remember very much of the last few hours, "I also don't expect much from Sarko's express visit in London. as you know, he needs a new event every day and he might have forgotten Britain next month. more seriously, there are still major differences on CAP, defence, Europe, Turkey, the role of the state in economy and society,... plus the weight of franco-german relations.... "
