Many have seen the images of the collision, the burning towers, the fall and the rubble. Most of us remember exactly where we were and what we were doing on September 11, 2001 when New York was attacked. However a few were on the ground in downtown Manhattan, not only witnessing, but bringing us those images.
Eight Magnum photographers (Paul Fusco, Thomas Hoepker, Steve McCurry, Susan Meiselas, Gilles Peress, Eli Reed, Larry Towell, Alex Webb) were there at what later became known as Ground Zero. In this Magnum in Motion story they give their eyewitness accounts of the attack and their perspectives on the consequences, five years later.
